Mom & Founder
I’m Sofia Blum, founder of Lunchies. After a successful decade as a journalist and reporter, I left my career to follow my passion for culinary arts, a decision sparked by a life-altering accident in 2018 when I was hit by a drunk driver. The lengthy recovery, marked by numerous surgeries and chronic pain, introduced me to the healing power of food.
The birth of my daughter further fueled my interest in nutrition as I started making homemade meals for her. Recognizing the struggle many working parents face in preparing nutritious meals due to tight schedules, I was inspired to create Lunchies.
When looking for school options for my toddler, I assumed that the increased health consciousness of today’s consumers had surely improved school lunches. However, I discovered they were much the same as in my childhood—mostly processed and lacking in nutrients and variety. Despite parents choosing chemical-free diapers and toys, healthy food choices seemed too daunting a challenge for many.
Driven by this realization, I immersed myself in culinary and childhood nutrition courses, and began delivering healthy meals to families in Westfield, New Jersey. To expand our reach and impact, Lunchies now also delivers directly to schools, offering kids healthier meal options right where they learn.
